For its entry into its fourth season since opening in March 2022, the GRATALOUP museum presents the work of the committed and rebellious artist Ladislas KIJNO, major figure of the informal painting movement of the 20th century.
Privileged partner of GRATALOUP museum, the Château de Vascœuil, Center of Art and History, gives us its support, allowing us to offer the public a selection of artists, all registered in the history of the Modern and Contemporary Art. The works of Ladislas KIJNO exhibited this season are part of the private collection of the owners of the Château.
Kijno, it is the child who at 4 years old draws the lines and curves of his father's violin. It was his father who took him to the garden so that he could draw trees, leeks and strawberries. “Don’t be satisfied with what you see, reality goes much further,” he told him.
The injunction from childhood remained anchored. Kijno explored reality and with all his strength, he began to create.
Kijno, it is the man who drips the paint, crumples the paper, sprays his canvases with a spray and then tears them up.
He is the man who invents writings to denounce wars, the man who paints lines and circles to get to the essential.
It is the traveler who travels the world to reach the moon; the man who, on his return, painted a plethora of Buddhas.
Kijno it is the lover of words who paints poets.
Kijno, he is the storm, the audacity and the concern, an iconoclast who believes in transcendence and gives art the power to reveal the foundations of the world.
