By inviting me to exhibit at the Grataloup Museum, Milena Cheynet de Beaupré – Grataloup had this intuition, simple and obvious, of a certain complicity with this great artist to whom the exhibition for the fall-winter 2023 season will be dedicated, Ladislas Kijno .
For my part, I had no idea of so much complicity, both on a human and artistic level.
It was only by seeking to tame a universe so far from mine that I realized its incredible proximity. The free exercise of thought, the gentle fantasy, the strength of expressiveness, the undisturbed being in the world of this warrior painter invited me to establish a fruitful dialogue with his traces, his signs, his words. Because poetry occupied a primordial place in his life, just as it did in mine.
I was therefore driven by a double requirement: to enter into dialogue with this major artist of contemporary art and to tame with humility a place that is far from trivial. Because the Prieuré Saint-Saturnin, located in the heart of the historic center of Chevreuse, is always and again an open space, conducive to the development of creativity, a space where the footsteps and songs of its multiple occupants resonate.
Counterpoint immediately emerged as the common thread of my future work. For me it was not a question of offering artistic works that had already been created. But to inhabit, even if only temporarily, this landscape vibrant with light. With works specially designed for the Priory Garden. In order to invite visitors to enter into poetry and painting alongside us, to approach the symbolic charge of language and material.
By its protean nature, the Artist's Book is a fertile ground for the imagination, it opens up fields of possibility and sharing. Combining writing and plastic intervention – drawing, painting, collage, sewing, engraving, etc. – the book becomes a space for experimentation.
The installations intended to take over the Garden of the Grataloup Museum will invite young and old to explore the multiple forms and materials borrowed from the artist's book. Six months for.
