Children's Workshops at the GRATALOUP Museum – Exploring the Living Body through Contemporary Art
Since its opening in March 2022, the GRATALOUP Museum in Chevreuse has become a dynamic center for contemporary art, with a clear mission: to engage young generations in the world of art. This fall, during the Toussaint holidays, the museum is offering a series of artistic workshops for children aged 5 to 12, in connection with the "Living Body" exhibition. This landmark event showcases works by painter GRATALOUP and plastic artist Antoinette ROZAN, exploring fundamental themes such as the body, life, and human relationships.
The "Living Body" Exhibition: A Deep Dive into the Human Body and Life
The "Living Body" exhibition invites visitors to immerse themselves in the artistic representation of the human body in various forms. Through their respective works, GRATALOUP and Antoinette ROZAN tell stories of movement, emotion, and the human condition. Children will have a unique opportunity to explore these themes through rich and meaningful artworks.
Toussaint Workshops: The Olympics and Body Exploration
These workshops, scheduled for October 22, 25, and 29 (from 3:00 PM to 4:00 PM) at the GRATALOUP Museum, take place in the context of the 2024 Olympic Games, a global event celebrating physical effort and the body in motion. Through a playful and immersive approach, children will discover how their bodies are both a vessel of life and a means of expression.
The workshops aim to spark curiosity in young minds about the human body and its role in art. Below are some of the themes explored during these sessions:
The body through life and movement: Children will learn how GRATALOUP and Antoinette ROZAN use the body as a source of inspiration, expressing both everyday life and significant moments of human existence.
Relationships with others: Through art, children will explore the concepts of friendship and love, how they help overcome challenges, and make the impossible possible.
Family and human diversity: Children will be encouraged to reflect on the diversity of bodies and human experiences, while also exploring the similarities that unite all individuals.
Birth and death: The cycle of life, represented in art, will be a central theme, allowing children to think about how we inhabit and live in our own bodies.
An Immersive and Fun Workshop
The workshop is designed to captivate children’s attention while helping them understand artistic concepts.
Welcome and museum tour: Children will begin with a guided tour of the museum, focusing on GRATALOUP’s beautiful stained glass windows, a signature element of the space.
Podcast listening: Through a series of specially designed podcasts for the exhibition, children will dive into the stories behind each piece. These stories explain, in simple and imaginative language, how the body moves, lives, and interacts with the world.
Sound and light show: For an even more immersive experience, a specially designed sound and light show will be offered. This projection, which reinforces the concepts explored during the workshop, allows children to fully immerse themselves in the artistic universe while stimulating their imagination.
🎙️ The Introductory Podcast: An Inspiring Teaser
Here is an excerpt from the introductory podcast offered to children at the start of each workshop:
"Right now, it’s the Olympic Games, and we’re talking a lot about sports. You do sports with your body. And a body is born, lives, and dies. I wanted to show that in my painting. I made paintings and hid secret images in them to explain how a body moves and lives. But shh, for you, I’m going to explain everything…"
This podcast sets the tone: each workshop will be a journey through the mysteries of the body and art, offering children a unique opportunity to learn while having fun.
