Composition with large red, yellow, black, gray and blue plane (1921)
This composition is one of the major works of what Mondrian called neoplasticism.
In 1920, Mondrian published "Neoplasticism", a work in which he attempted to clarify his ideas theoretically, based on his art which he described as "neoplastic", the subject of previous publications in the famous magazine De Stijl.
The "Composition with large red plane..." still shows a relatively large number of planes in bright colors. Little by little, the artist abandons colors, in search of perfection in rhythm and balance.
