What holds
It is a perfectly structured world. Every line is held, every form is in its place. And yet there is no longer any base. The world can be overturned. The top becomes the bottom. The bottom becomes the top. And the horizon line is no longer a boundary but becomes the place where everything shifts, where the world turns over without falling apart.
As above, so below, the vegetal appears as a framework, the memory of the living inscribed in the structure of the world.
At the centre, the silver circle is not sacred. It does not radiate like gold. It simply reflects reality.
This work, As Above, So Below, is the last painted by Grataloup. It no longer seeks to explain, to question, or to conclude. So this is what remains: a world in balance. A world without meaning. But one that holds.

What holds
In this painting, the world looks very carefully drawn. The lines are straight and everything is in its place. You could almost believe that everything is stable.
But look more closely. There is no ground. The world can turn over. The top becomes the bottom, and yet we see the same thing.
At the centre, there is a silver circle. It does not shine like gold. It simply reflects what is there, like a mirror.
This painting shows us that sometimes the world does not need to be explained in order to hold. Even when everything could tip over, something remains in balance. And that may be what holds.
