Before us
It is a moment in time when humankind does not yet exist. But nature has already conceived the vegetal world: dense, luxuriant, insistent. A golden palm tree stands, then its negative imprint. Presence and trace: the living is not limited to what we see.
Gold speaks of the abundance and profusion of a world that exists fully. Nature is not a garden. Nor is it a resource or a domesticated backdrop. Here, the living is sovereign.
And perhaps this is where we must begin: by recognising that the world is already there, before any human presence, before any desire for humans to take a place within it.

Before us
There are no humans. You can see a golden tree. It stands there, straight and calm, as if it had existed for a very long time. Beside it, you can see its colourless imprint. Like the trace we leave in the earth when we walk.
This painting speaks of a world before us. Before humans arrived on the earth. The world is already there. Nature exists without us. It grows, it breathes. It does not need us.
This painting simply reminds us that the world was there before, and that it will continue after.
