The first FREE was born in 2005, made of plaster. I discovered this material that allowed me to break away from academic conventions and create freely, following my intuition. Over the years, this character becomes emblematic of my work.
When exhibited alone, FREE is a sculpture that embodies the freedom to be oneself. The installations I create with multiple FREE figures form Trees of Life. These sculptures, placed side by side, give the illusion of being different. Yet, all these sculptures come from the same mold. Like our DNA, that of humanity, they are identical. However, through their poses and attitudes, they become unique.
Welcoming in its posture, FREE encourages opening up to oneself while respecting others and their peculiarities. Unlike a "static" sculpture, beyond a statue, it is full of movement. FREE subtly expresses the illusion of difference. This sculpture conveys a message of Joy: the freedom to be ourselves and live with respect for Others.
