Maternity is a bronze sculpture placed on a marble pedestal. This sculpture symbolizes the paradox between emptiness and fullness. Representing maternity in a haunting way, one might believe that its belly is hollow.
Created in 2011, this sculpture actually expresses the power of maternity, the bond that forms between two beings, filled with love: an unknown entity in the midst of creation, and a mother, a territory of possibilities. The hollow then signifies the fullness of all projects, possibilities, and future.
This is a mommy waiting for a baby. The baby is the big circle. We can't see it inside, but we never see the baby inside a mommy, right? We know it's there, but we have to guess who it will be, a girl or a boy, with blue or black eyes... We don't know, but there are lots of possibilities. And it's all the possibilities of life that I wanted to represent by letting you imagine what's in the space in the middle of the circle.
