Closure of the GRATALOUP museum: after the disappointment, the painter's wife wants to move forward

Toutes les Nouvelles de Rambouillet devotes an article to the closure of the GRATALOUP Museum in Chevreuse and to the new stage that now opens for the work of Grataloup.
In its edition of September 9, 2026 , Toutes les Nouvelles de Rambouillet revisits the decision of the municipality of Chevreuse not to renew the agreement for making the Priory of Saint-Saturnin available to the association Les Amis du Musée GRATALOUP.
The GRATALOUP Museum, an association museum opened in March 2022 , will therefore close its doors to the public on November 11, 2026 , after five years dedicated to discovering the work of the painter and creating a true contemporary art space in the heart of Chevreuse.
A community museum that has become a true contemporary art venue
The article recalls the journey since the opening: 11 contemporary art exhibitions , organized with internationally renowned artists such as Yann Arthus-Bertrand or Antoine Poupel , but also a cultural mediation developed to make the works accessible to all audiences.
The newspaper also highlights the institutional recognition obtained by the museum, notably with its recent integration into the Heritage Pass of the Heritage Foundation .
To bring this project to life, the association had also taken out a loan of 60,000 euros , intended for scenography, sound and light systems and mediation to highlight and explain the works of Grataloup as well as those of the invited artists.
The museum's closure: a difficult decision to understand
When questioned by the newspaper, Milena Cheynet de Beaupré expressed her "surprise and disappointment" at a decision that comes at a time when the museum had gradually found its audience and developed its recognition.
She also highlights what constitutes for her one of the main regrets of this closure: the lack of recognition from the City towards the work of Grataloup and the forty years of history that unite the artist with Chevreuse, but also towards the commitment of the association during the five years of the museum.
The article recalls that Grataloup settled in Chevreuse in 1986 , that he lived and worked there and that this story remains inscribed in the city today, notably through the three stained glass windows that he created in 2011 for the chapel of the Saint-Saturnin Priory .
To travel with Grataloup's work
But beyond the disappointment, Toutes les Nouvelles de Rambouillet highlights above all the new stage that is beginning.
"After processing the news over the summer, Milena is now looking to the future."
With the association Les Amis de Grataloup, the objective is now to devote all energy to making the artist's work travel for his posterity .
With over 200 creations , many projects can now come to fruition: exhibitions, collaborations with museums, foundations, art centers, galleries and historical monuments, both in France and internationally.
The closure of the GRATALOUP Museum thus marks the end of a place, but certainly not the end of the adventure.
A new stage begins: allowing Grataloup's work to leave the walls of a single museum to encounter new places and new audiences.
The GRATALOUP Museum remains open to the public until November 11, 2026 , with its latest exhibition, Between Worlds , bringing together the works of Grataloup and Antoine Poupel .
