Grataloup Museum Closure: A New Beginning for the Artwork

L'Écho Républicain devotes an article to theupcoming closure of the GRATALOUP Museum in Chevreuse and the new horizons that are opening up for the work of Grataloup .
In its edition of August 29, 2026 , L'Écho Républicain revisits the decision of the City of Chevreuse not to renew the occupancy agreement of the Saint-Saturnin Priory, which will lead the GRATALOUP Museum to close its doors to the public on November 11, 2026 .
Under the title "End of the museum, new beginning for Grataloup" , journalist Jade Sauvée recalls the journey since the museum opened in 2022: nearly 10,000 visitors , eleven exhibitions, innovative mediation including podcasts in French and English, a sound and light show, sound creations and videos, as well as a community of more than 5,000 newsletter subscribers.
The article also revisits the recent heritage recognition of the museum by the Heritage Foundation , which highlighted in particular its ability to bring to life and enhance the cultural heritage of the territory.
Grataloup Museum Closure: Forty Years of History Between Grataloup and Chevreuse
L'Écho Républicain also places this closure in a much longer history between Grataloup and Chevreuse .
Having settled in the town in 1986, the artist built his house and studio there and worked there for nearly forty years. The article recalls several stages of this relationship: the presentation of his Stations of the Cross at the Saint-Martin church in 1991, his exhibition at the Séchoir à Peaux in 2005, then the creation in 2011 of the three stained-glass windows of the chapel of the Saint-Saturnin Priory , before the opening of the GRATALOUP Museum in the same place in 2022.
Grataloup also chose to rest in Chevreuse, where his tomb is adorned with a mosaic inspired by his work.
But the article looks primarily towards the future.
After the museum's closure, the goal is now to allow Grataloup's work to travel and meet new audiences , both in France and internationally.
As Milena Cheynet de Beaupré explains in the article:
"I think what's to come is going to be even bigger."
Exhibitions, partnerships, research, discussions with foundations, companies, art schools, museums, collectors: a new stage is opening to make Grataloup's work known and shared beyond Chevreuse.
The GRATALOUP Museum will close its doors to the public on November 11, 2026 , but the story of the work continues.
